Strangest catch

My strangest catch would have to be a a pair of jeans! I knew it wasn't a fish before I even got it out of the water - something about the way it felt, but I figured it was seaweed. The jeans were in fairly good shape, and I keep wondering who in the heck lost their pants out here?

I've fished up bras, speedoes, and bikini bottoms before - personally I neither need to know nor want to. I mean there are only so many reasons and only so many of them are actually pleasant.

But ok, would you continue fishing in a spot where you're pulling up bras and speedos? I mean I would kind of be leary of eating any fish I caught from a lake where those types of articles of clothing or worse (condoms), might be in the water. If bras, briefs, or speedos are in the water. I think you can put 2 and 2 together as to what else might be in there.:cautious:

You make a good point. But on the other hand, that's a risk no matter where you fish.

The same places we fish are the same places stuff is dumped in, boat fuel is leaking into, people pee in, etc. So as bad as it sounds, it only may bother you because you actually saw it first hand.

Not a lake - ocean, which explains why there are bras, bikinis, and speedos. Its a beach and I have seen folks pranked in just such a way. I have also tossed them towels or tackled folks to get their swimwear back. I like helping is what I'm saying.

True. The reason we can go to the supermarket and buy food and eat it is because we don't see the guys who work at the boxing factories picking their noses while working the assembly line. Society works on a trust system, as long as we don't know/see where someone elses hands have been, we can safely buy food from them and consume it. Fishing works the same, if I don't see a bra or bikini in a fishing spot, then I will fish there. But if I reel one in while I'm fishing, the wool is out from over my eyes now. So time to find a new spot lol.

There are multiple ways for these sorts of things to get into something as large as the ocean or a bay or huge lake that opens onto the ocean. Add on that at least I'm not fishing out of the Chattahoogee and well - I'm going to cook it very well anyway. I don't believe in sushi.

That's true. But have any of you guys ever found anything of value while fishing? Like something you fished out of the water that wasn't a fish persay, but had value and could be sold or pawned after you cleaned it up a bit?

I did have fish a belt! :D I did not use it for myself but I made use of it by using it foe my dog. Of coarse I washed it before actually putting it in my dog's neck! :D It is still the one that is on my dog's neck up to now.

Hm, a charm bracelet apparently made of silver and a men's watch that was of course waterlogged but well made. Also I've caught a couple of bills mostly fives or tens, but once a twenty.

Wow, those are some great stories. My strangest catch was a small catfish many years ago which I somehow caught by the tail. When I pulled it out of the water it had a fair sized snapping turtle holding onto the side of its head! My lure must have made quite the ruckus down there and they both fought over it, apparently :)

Haha! Classic! So did you keep the turtle as a pet? I would've.

Wow, where do you folks fish?! The oddes thing we ever hauled up (but not from a boat) was a fish called a Stargazer. Really ugly, sort of flat with a huge mouth and some sort of "lure" on its nose to attract little fish to eat. My friend kicked it over the side of the pier and got a spine in his foot. Later he felt like crap and we found out that the slime on these things is mildly poisonous! He was ok fortunately.

I'm afraid the only thing I've gotten was a beat up scuba fin.
